Pokemon GO - New Update Details (Gen 2 Rollout)

Feb 15, 2017   //   by Rick   //   Mobile  //  No Comments

Our World Is Expanding—Over 80 More Pokémon and New Features Are Coming!

Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, and many more Pokémon are nearly here! Starting later this week, you’ll have the opportunity to catch more than 80 Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region in the Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver video games. We’ve also implemented some new features to enhance your Pokémon GO experience.

Additional Pokémon: More than 80 Pokémon that were originally discovered in the Johto region in the Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver video games, as well as Pokémon with gender-specific variations, will start rolling out in Pokémon GO.

New Evolutions: There are now more opportunities to evolve your Pokémon in Pokémon GO than ever before. Some Pokémon originally discovered in the Kanto region will soon be able to evolve—into Pokémon that inhabit the Johto region! Be on the lookout for new Evolution items at PokéStops, which you’ll need to evolve some Pokémon.

New Encounter Gameplay: When you encounter Pokémon in the wild, don’t be surprised if they react in new ways as you’re trying to catch them. You’ll also notice the addition of new item carousels that allow you to select Berries and Poké Balls directly from the encounter screen. Hone your skills and catch those elusive Pokémon!

New Berries: Pokémon enjoy eating Berries, and you’ll have the opportunity to get two new Berries by spinning the Photo Disc at PokéStops—Nanab Berries and Pinap Berries! Giving a Pokémon a Nanab Berry will slow its movements, making it easier to catch. The Pinap Berry doubles the amount of Candy you’ll receive if your next catch attempt succeeds.

New Avatars and an Expanded Wardrobe: Now you’ll be able to give your avatar a complete upgrade! Customize your look with a whole new selection of hats, shirts, pants, and other items.

Be sure to use the hashtag #PokemonGO on Twitter to share your experiences as you explore your local neighborhoods with family and friends. We can’t wait to see the Pokémon you catch!

Pokemon GO - Generation 2 Babies Added

Dec 12, 2016   //   by Rick   //   Mobile  //  No Comments

Professor Willow has discovered Togepi and Pichu hatching from Eggs! Starting later today, Trainers will have the opportunity to hatch these and several other Pokémon that were originally discovered in the Johto Region in Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver video games. These are the first of more Pokémon coming to Pokémon GO over the next few months. Be sure to use the hashtag #PokemonGO on Twitter to share your experiences as you explore your local neighborhoods with family and friends, walk to hatch these Pokémon from Eggs, and register them to your collection this holiday season. We can’t wait to see what Pokémon you’ve hatched!

We also have another special treat for you. Starting later today through December 29, 2016, 10:00 A.M. PST, you’ll find limited edition Pikachu all over the world. These Pikachu will be wearing a festive hat to celebrate the season! Use the Pokémon GO AR camera when you encounter them in the wild to take their picture and share it with us using #HolidayPikachu.

I think it should be noted that while the video may give the impression that only two baby pokemon from Gen 2 have been released, it’s actually seven.

Pichu (-> Pikachu)
Togepi (-> Togetic)
Cleffa (-> Clefairy)
Magby (-> Magmar)
Igglybuff (-> Jigglypuff)
Tyrogue (-> Hitmontop, Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee)
Elekid (-> Electabuzz)
Smoochum (-> Jynx)

Tyrogue hasn’t been added yet, but since this seems to be the start to a trickle-style release for Gen 2 pokemon, we’ll see him eventually too.

Minecraft - New Pocket/Windows 10 Edition Update Details

Dec 1, 2016   //   by Rick   //   Mobile, PC, Xbox  //  No Comments

Celebrating the Past and Future of Minecraft: Pocket Edition

Once upon a time, Minecraft: Pocket Edition had no clouds and no sun. It had no slimes and no melons. You may find this hard to believe, pocket crafters of the past year. But at the beginning, Pocket Edition had the most basic of gameplay features, forged by a single coder named Aron, who spun up the first build in less than three months for an E3 demo in 2011.

Crafting came to Pocket almost a year later with a new Minecraft Advanced Touch Technology Interface System (MATTIS), named after Mattis Grahm, one of Mojang’s pixel wizards. And then many crusaded to bring infinite worlds to earthly cellular devices – an unimaginable feat. The savvy members of the Pocket Edition team pioneered groundbreaking methods like the Advanced Cave Culling Algorithm™, or the Advanced Way-They-Rewrote-All-The-Rendering-To-Be-Shader-Based-In-GLES2/3.

We are feeling rather nostalgic on the Minecraft team these days, because November marked just about the five-year anniversary of Minecraft: Pocket Edition. It was fall five years ago when the team first began rolling out Pocket Edition on Android and iOS – beginning with Xperia Play. Since then, Pocket Edition has expanded to run on Kindle devices, Fire TV, GearVR, and Windows Phone. It’s grown to over 40 million players that can connect to each other and players on Oculus Rift and Windows 10 via online multiplayer and Realms. In just the past six months, we’ve ushered in redstone, witches, the Wither, Elder Guardians and pig riding. And Pocket Edition and the Windows 10 Edition are about to get the complete game loop with the upcoming 1.0 Ender Update. In fact, we’re ready to show it to you today, with this new trailer.

We’re also ready to reveal more features coming to the 1.0 Ender Update:

  • We’ll be adding a special feature called the World Seed Library to help you more easily find worlds with features you’ve been looking for. We’ll be populating the library and refreshing it periodically with a collection of dozens of amazing seeds for you to try.
  • Folks who are more partial to colder climes will find chilly locales in their worlds populated by polar bears, and happen across igloos whilst exploring.
  • MUSIC! Finally, Pocket Edition crafters will be able to join their Windows 10 Edition counterparts and enjoy playing the game with the original soundtrack. This is set as a separate, optional download rather than directly part of the main game download, so that we can be kind to your bandwidth.
  • For folks who enjoy playing the Windows 10 Edition in VR with their Oculus Rift, we’ll be adding support for Oculus Touch input.

It’s been an amazing past five years of crafting on the go, and we can’t believe that you’ll soon be able to carry the complete Minecraft game loop in your pocket. And who knows what the next five years will bring! The End may be coming, but we are far from finished.

Pokemon GO - Ditto Discovered and Double XP/Stardust Event

Nov 23, 2016   //   by Rick   //   Mobile  //  No Comments

Ditto has been discovered…

Professor Willow has finally discovered Ditto! Trainers all over the world have been reporting its appearance.

Ditto has been known to disguise itself as other Pokémon, so keep an eye out, some Pokémon may actually be Ditto, and when you capture them, there’s a chance that Ditto will reveal itself. If you do encounter a Pokémon that is Ditto in disguise, the Pokémon in that specific encounter will also reveal itself as Ditto for other Trainers.

Ditto is also a unique Pokémon when you interact with Gyms. When training or battling at a Gym, Ditto will copy the appearance, types, and moves of the first Pokémon it sees, and it will stay that way through the remainder of those Gym battles.

A Celebration to Say Thank You

It has been an incredible experience since we launched Pokémon GO a few short months ago in July. We are passionate about creating experiences that encourage exploration and promote exercise. We are humbled that hundreds of millions of you around the world have joined us on this journey. So we would like to say thank you – and what better way to say thank you than to celebrate our community.

So, starting November 23rd at 00:00 UTC and going through November 30th 00:00 UTC, we will double the amount of XP and Stardust you receive when completing in-game actions.

New Pokemon GO Update

Jul 31, 2016   //   by Rick   //   Mobile  //  No Comments

Trainers, Pokémon GO has been updated to version 0.31.0:
– Avatars can now be re-customized from the Trainer profile screen
– Adjusted battle move damage values for some Pokémon
– Refined certain Gym animations
– Improved memory issues
– Removed footprints of nearby Pokémon
– Modified battle damage calculation
– Various bug fixes during wild Pokémon encounter
– Updated Pokémon details screen
– Updated achievement medal images
– Fixed issues with displaying certain map features
– Minor text fixes

With v0.31.0, some progress has been made on the UI front. Ease of use has increased and customization is now freely available, but the removal of the footprints is a sour note compounded by the squashing of certain third-party scanning sites. It remains to be seen how Niantic intends to tackle the tracking issue and what form the system will return in, if it returns at all. In the mean time, we’ll keep hunting, but also expecting some sort of resolution to this issue very soon.
